The Bold & the New

December 01, 2013 2 min read

Something bold, something NEW, something black, & something… RED! Yes, I said, “red.” My pastel-loving friend, the New Year is a time for change! Bold colors such as oxblood red, acid yellow, and amethyst are making their way from runway to the home front, and here at Rug and Home we’ve embraced the challenge. Dolce & Gabbana introduced this oxblood red into their 2014 runway lineup and it’s taken the design world by storm. Whichever way you choose to add this accent, you’ll see it popping up everywhere. Designers are bringing these bold colors here to stay long past the holiday season. Scared of that bold red wall color? Don’t be! Look at how you can incorporate these bold tones into a beautiful and functional space for you and your family.

We can show you how to pull together a room that is both bold and functional. Changing a wall color is simple and, by design rule of thumb, one of the least expensive things you can do to change a space in your home. Something as simple as color can recreate the feel of a space. Take this look from Our Fifth House, for example:

If you’re still not sure how to make that bold color work for your space, let us show you how we can create a very similar look with a few of our pieces.

  • Start with a bold, tribal print rug to offer comfort, warmth, and protection for hardwood floors.
  • A comfortable leather sofa is both functional for your family as well as stylish.
  • A variety of colorful throw pillows from our large selection of Villa Pillows is another inexpensive way to pack a large punch.

  • Another example of how to make a bold wall color work in a space is by adding coordinating artwork. We’ve created a little boys’ oasis using red wall color and storage-packed pieces by Paula Deen.

If you don’t want to change your wall color, you can still incorporate color into your home. Designers are playing it safe with neutral tones in staple pieces but adding daring accent pieces that allow you to pack some punch in your homes. See how you can take one of our leather sofas and make it your own.

You can even add little punches of color here or there with a foyer piece or an accent chair in a bright color. Take builder’s beige to a new level with a daring red sofa like this one from Klaussner.

There are so many different options to choose from, but there are so many ways you can incorporate this upcoming trend into your home. Whichever you choose, those pastel colors and delicate patterns are being packed away for now. We are ringing in the New Year by making a bold statement with vibrant color, lots of leather, and metallic tones.
